Hi, I’m Brendan. I never “worked on Wall Street” — partly because I’m not 80, and mostly because that’s not how the industry actually talks about itself. There are no banks on Wall Street. I worked in Edinburgh and in the City of London — the City — which is the closest living analogue. I stumbled into macro from a PhD in oil exploration and fell in love with a job that lets me combine history, maths, physics and creativity, with instant feedback.
Markets are living, evolving ecosystems with rules and foibles — endlessly fascinating, sometimes tiring, occasionally downright annoying. I’m convinced a huge share of what retail investors are fed online is nonsense, often from people with exaggerated or fabricated credentials (the old “I worked on Wall Street” tell). I want a different path: a small community of smart people I can guide and lead the way I would an institutional investment team.
